ZCell energy storage solution, including additional coverage in regional areas and the NT.
Australian battery company Redflow Limited today announces seven more approved installers for its newRedflow’s latest approved ZCell installers are SSE Systems in the ACT;Riverina Complete Solar in Griffith, NSW; Country Solar NT in the Northern Territory; Apex Communication Technologies and Sustainable Works, both in SA; Veida in Victoria; and Green Gateway in WA. Redflow now has a total of 12 installers offering services in every state and territory of Australia.
ASX-listed Redflow last month told shareholders at its Annual General Meeting that it had received strong demand for its ZCell residential battery, with orders from installers Australia-wide, including one for 48 ZCells, worth about $600,000 from Standard Solar in Melbourne. Through in-country business partners, Redflow has also seen multi-unit deployments of its ZBM2 commercial batteries at a factory in South Africa and a telecommunications tower in New Zealand.
Redflow CEO Simon Hackett said each approved installer had undertaken ZCell-specific training which extended their existing expertise and experience of installing energy storage systems.
Redflow is an Australian company that designs and distributes ZBM2 commercial and ZCell home energy storage systems. These 10 kilowatt hour (kWh) zinc-bromine flow batteries can ‘timeshift’ solar power from day to night, store off-peak power for peak demand periods and support off-grid systems. Installers determine the price charged for an energy storage system that uses a ZCell battery from Redflow.
SSE Systems is a Canberra company that installs solar PV systems and batteries in the ACT and areas of southern NSW. Managing Director Tobias McLenaghan said ZCell was clearly superior to other batteries. “By the time ZCell has finished its warranty, people could have bought two sets of lead acid batteries,” he said. “Farmers are really interested in batteries because they already have solar, so ZCell’s reliable energy storage would be really beneficial for them.”
Riverina Complete Solar is a Griffith-based company that operates throughout southern NSW as far west as Cobar. Owner Mike Culgan said ZCell stood out because its 10 kWh of energy storage was 100 per cent usable. “I reckon we’ll get a lot of customers who are coming off the 60 cent per kWh solar feed-in tariff,” he said. “ZCell is an attractive outside unit, it’s easy to recycle and there’s no worry about a fault causing fires.”
Country Solar NT is a Darwin company that is active throughout the Top End, including Alice Springs, Arnhem Land, Katherine and extending into northern WA. Managing Director Jeremy Hunt said ZCell was an attractive product as an Australian-made battery with a long lifespan and greater depth of discharge than other batteries. “We believe our biggest opportunities will come from remote stations and fringe-of-grid customers with potential high network connection fees,” he said. “For small commercial, ZCell can replace a backup generator and maintain full state of charge even if idle for long periods. Once the solar feed-in tariff structure in the NT changes, we expect to receive greater demand for grid-connected batteries.”
Adelaide-based Apex Communication Technologies operates throughout South Australia, with clients from the Cooper Basin to suburban Adelaide. Managing director Paul Stallan said ZCell was the ideal battery for South Australia because of its robustness. “ZCell will work in temperatures as hot as 50 degrees, which would stop other battery types as such as lithium and lead acid,” he said. “We’re a telco-grade contractor with customers throughout the state, so that temperature tolerance is a real plus for us.”
Sustainable Works is another Adelaide company that supports customers throughout the State. Manager Colin Lord said he had been interested in Redflow batteries for years. “Redflow now has the right product and the right leadership to make a real impact,” he said. “We work throughout SA, which means we need to provide a long-life battery that maintains its capacity. ZCell fits that bill. Also, I’m really happy it’s a home-grown product which is good for the customer because of local service.”
Veida is a Victorian company that designs off-grid capable systems for commercial and large residential customers throughout metropolitan Melbourne. Veida’s Director and Chief Engineer Haim Ptasznik said he was attracted to ZCell by its unique performance characteristics such as 100 per cent depth of discharge. “Redflow delivers better value for money because its full 10 kWh is available for the life of the battery, unlike other technologies which lose storage capacity with age,” he said. “ZCell is also non-flammable, easy to install and they look good. We’re receiving a lot of interest from both residential and commercial customers who want to take charge of their energy usage.”
Green Gateway is a Dunsborough-based company that delivers specialist sustainable housing services throughout WA. Managing director Todd Mason said he had received commercial inquiries about installing batteries from Perth to far north WA and even the NT. “ZCell is a standout product for its depth of discharge, its usability and its lifecycle with no degradation,” he said. “We think our biggest opportunities involve industries that use a lot of power, such as big cool rooms or medical centres, that want to drive down their energy costs and ensure uninterrupted power supply.”
